A new survival game has been announced by publisher THQ Nordic being developed Black Forest Games. Taking place in the harsh lands of a post-apocalyptic winter is the story behind Fade to Silence, coming to Steam Early Access on December 14.

You take on the role of Ash, a man described as a natural but tormented leader. The game challenges the player to survive the difficult circumstances of the lethal cold, limited food, and dangerous monsters, with a special note of having to fend yourself from nature.

Compare that to The Long Dark, as you are having to establish a safe and reliable refuge for yourself, but you'll have the added horror of sinister creatures roaming this environment.

Though unlike The Long Dark, Fade to Silence is a complex, character-driven, group survival experience. The player is not alone in their exploits but is accompanied by a number of other survivors in this world. The player will have to decide which survivors to accept into their refuge and which to abandon.

Extra focus is given to the fact that the weather in the game will be a vital component to gameplay:

The dynamic weather system adds to the immersion of survival in a cold, corrupted world. Survival depends on how well the players read weather patterns, and if they come to the right conclusion - look for shelter or press home. The dynamic snow displacement leaves a realistic path by both player character and NPC. This telltale sign will tell you regions where it is good to hunt and regions where monsters are roaming.

Early Access starts on Steam on December 14, though no price or official release date has been announced.
