This Weekend Marks Wii's 10th Anniversary

As if I didn't feel old enough already.

Ten years ago, store shelves everywhere were already laid bare. They were surrounded by countless signs and promotional cut-outs celebrating the release of Nintendo's most popular console ever. That's right, this weekend marks the ten year anniversary of the Nintendo Wii. A decade ago, all our moms collectively decided that this was the console for them. They helped make it a smashing financial success before letting it collect dust in a corner along with their Wii-fit boards and ellipticals.

Just like old times.

It's hard to believe that was ten years ago. Hell, I was still in high school at that point. Then again, it makes sense. In that time, the Nintendo Wii dominated the market, gained a full portfolio of games, and alienated third party publishers. And when all our moms realized that they never actually play with it, the Wii was finally replaced by the Wii-U. And we all know that train wreck brings us to today. There's no telling whether or not Nintendo's latest gimmick console is going to pay off. Will they strike gold like they did ten years ago? Or has their luck run out?
