The PlayStation Experience, or PSX, is an annual event by Sony's entertainment branch to reveal and promote various PlayStation titles, merchandise, and services. For the last four years, the event was held in December. As we grew ever closer to the final month of 2018, fans began to ask why we had not heard or seen anything regarding this year's event.
Well, now we know why. Sony will not be presenting a PlayStation Experience event this year. The statement was made in the most recent episode of the PlayStation Blogcast, an online audio blog by SIE. Layden remarked that it's not due to logistical issues, simply that they don't have much to show right now.
The reasons behind that really are, we dont have we have a lot of progress that were making in our games, and were seeing that coming out, [but] now that we have Spider-Man out the door, were looking down into 2019 games like Dreams and Days Gone.
. . .
But we wouldnt have enough to bring people all together in some location in North America to have that event. We dont want to set expectations really high and then not deliver on it. It was a hard decision.
Layden reassured listeners that PlayStation would be putting extra effort in communicating with the players over the winter about upcoming games and products. He mentions finding "more ways to get our message out." What that means, we don't know. We'll be keeping our eye on the company anyway.
Further into the audio blog, Layden remarks on the recent cross-play implementation for Fortnite, which began this week. He acknowledges the influx of requests he's been getting over the last few months about the feature.
I guess if you want to know what PlayStation is up to this winter season, you'll just have to keep up to date on your favorite gaming news source, gamerzunite.com!
