Lots of Pokemon...

So, you might have missed it, given that it’s pre-E3 weekend and everything, but Nintendo decided now would be the best time to host one of its famous direct live streams, focused on future Pokémon games the company would be churning out in the coming months and years. Still riding high from the success of Sun and Moon, it seems they have a lot of exciting news, so, let’s not waste time, shall we?

First, most important bit o’ news is that they’ve just announced the “upgraded” Pokemon game that typically follows the first two of the generation. The difference this time around, though, seems to be that rather than combining both games into a single narrative (see: Emerald, Platinum, etc.) both the Sun and Moon versions of the game will be upgraded, called Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, respectively.

Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon will host a revamped story, new Pokémon, new features, and the ever-looming question “why did I bother to buy the original version, again?”. We can expect to see the new-and-improved games to launch on November 17th… for the 3DS. Yes, it seems the long-suspected rumor that Game Freak would launch a mainstream Pokemon Game on the Switch turned out to be little more than that.

But that’s not to say no games would be coming to the Switch

Enter Pokken Tournament DX, another remake of the surprisingly popular Arcade game from Japan. We’ve long suspected it would make its way to the Switch, but we may not have guessed that it would arrive with five new fighters: Darkrai, Scizor, Empoleon, Croagunk, and Decidueye. Sounds like a good time, but we’ll find out for sure on September 22nd.

Finally, and perhaps least excitingly, Pokemon Gold and Silver will now be coming to the 3DS Virtual Console, with link grades and link battles, as well as Pokemon Bank support. Good for fans of nostalgia, or people who just want a Pokemon experience on the cheap. It’ll arrive on September 22nd too.

Lots to look forward too, for Pokefans… but it’s also pretty exciting for regular Nintendo fans as well. After all, if Nintendo isn’t saving this for E3, then their upcoming announcements are bound to be even bigger and better!
