With the next generation of consoles inching ever closer, we finally have been given the information that matters: hardware specs. The official specifications of the Xbox Series X have been revealed.
The information comes from the Xbox website in an informational posting. To make it easy, they even made a graph with everything, comparing it to the Xbox One and X and the Xbox One S.
But what does it all mean? Let's break it down.
The Series X uses eight Zen 2 CPU cores at 3.8GHz. This ranks noticeably higher than the 2.13GHz from the One X. We can expect approximately 78 percent more kick from the Series X processor. If you compare to the Xbox One S, it's over twice as strong (2.17 times as strong, to be specific).
How about the graphics card, or GPU? The Xbox Series X uses a Custome RDNA 2 GPU capable of 12 teraflops of power from 52 CUs at 1.825GHz. This makes it over twice as strong as the One X and even more so over the classic One and One S.
It has more RAM memory, as well. The Series X has 16GB of RAM, while the X and S have 12 and 8 respectively.
The hard drive is a Solid State Drive, a more expensive but tremendously faster form of data storage, as its primary drive. This means much shorter load times for games. We couldn't figure a good metric to compare it though.
To summarize, the Xbox Series X is about twice as powerful as the Xbox One X, which is the improved performance version of the current-gen Xbox One. We knew it would be strong, but it's hard to imagine how impressive games will look on the console.
The Xbox Series X will release in Fall of 2020 with Halo Infinite as a launch title. Currently, the recent COVID-19 epidemic will not delay the release of the console. Though the Xbox Live service has noticed an increase in activity as social distancing continues.
