The Witcher is officially video game that was adapted from books, to be adapted into a TV series: a Netflix series to be more specific. The Witcher has become a world-renowned open world fantasy RPG video game, and not many people realize that it was adopted from a series of books. While The Witcher was originally a book, the video games were much more positively received than the books written by Andrzej Sapkowski.
Announced earlier today, The Witcher will be turned into a Netflix series by oscar nominated visual effects studio Platige Image S.A. It will be executively produced by Sean Daniel (The Mummy) and Jason Brown. Platige Image S.A. has done visual effects for The Witcher games in the past by the same director that will be working on the TV series.
The biggest question to raise is whether the TV series will follow the games or the books. Author Andrzej Sapkowski has cut all ties to The Witcher games, and he has no involvement in them whatsoever, even going to the extent in expressing his hatred for video games as a whole compared to books. I think it's safe to assume that most fans of The Witcher series are looking forward to deep, detailed and exciting storytelling similar to the quests in The Witcher 3, but it's unclear whether the story will stay true to the franchise's most successful project or not.
