The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Will Have 16 DLC Packs

And you won't believe the price!

It’s not often I find myself admiring a company despite never once having played one of their games, but CD Projekt Red is exceptional in many ways, including its abilities to make me swoon at every opportunity.  They’re just good guys over there—good people making good games for all the right reasons, an indie developer with a triple-A budget, and if gaming was ever an empire I’d hope CD Projekt Red was the studio with the crown.

My love for them is well-documented (on other websites), so I’m always loathe to pass up an opportunity to spout their virtues on any rooftop that can support my weight. And in this case, the rooftop is GamerzUnite—from which I will proudly declare they have just announced that their upcoming title, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will have 16, count em’, 16 DLC packs in the weeks and months after launch.

And they’ll all be free!

You read that right, free.  Free for everyone, no catches, no tricks.  You don’t have to pay for them in a bundle, or pre-order the game, or have the special edition, or even buy the game before the DLC comes out: two will be released Febuary 25th (with two more every following week), and if you have the game, you can download it.  If you buy the game AFTER all the DLC comes out, you can still get the DLC.  It’s absolutely free, and I literally cannot think of a single other company who would do that.

Granted, the DLC isn’t exactly as meaty as the DLC for other games might be—at least, the first two announced DLC packs aren’t, which constitute a hair and beard cosmetic pack for the avatar and some new armor (with some for your horse, obviously).  But still, a normal game would have charged two, three bucks for even that, so it’s still pretty fantastic.

From an open letter by CD Projekt Red Joint CEO Marcin Iwiński:

“We love games. We love collecting them, playing them, and everything connected to that experience. Every time we reach out for a new release, we expect to be taken care of. We expect support if we encounter any problems, we love updates constantly improving the experience, and we feel really special when we receive free content that gives us more than we initially paid for.”

True words, my man.  True words.
