The Witcher 3 was greatly beloved by critics and fans alike, but unfortunately, all things must come to an end--and it seems like the upcoming adventures Geralt will embark upon in the upcoming (and highly anticipated) expansion to the Witcher 3 will not only mark the end of our adventures in The Witcher 3… but it will also mark the end of our journey with Geralt in general. At least, as far as the games are concerned. The novels still exist. Technically. But according to lead writer Jakub Szamalek, he’ll go out with a bang, as he claims this upcoming 20-hour expansion Blood and Wine will actually be a better experience than the base game, if that’s even possible.
In an interview with Eurogamer Italy, he said that the villain will be a more charismatic individual, and the main story will offer more complexity than the Wild Hunt did in the base game. Because of this, they think they crafted an experience that excels where the base game failed that the fans will appreciate.
It comes out a bit choppy, since it’s in Italian. Point is, the developers are confident in this project, and are looking to give the Witcher series an appropriately epic cap before they move on to their next project, Cyberpunk 2077. Coming from CD Projekt Red, I share that confidence, and hope that they carry it over into their future title.
Still, it’ll be sad to see the Witcher go. Since I refuse to buy the novels, I mean.
