Look, it’s not news at this point to report that the Witcher series, and developer CD Projekt Red, was successful. But you might be interested in learning how successful they are, and let me tell you, it’s nothing to scoff at.

In the recently released 2016 financial results, CD Projekt Red revealed they have sold over 25 million copies of the Witcher trilogy games, with the Witcher 3 alone accruing a total of 250 million dollars in total sales over the year and a half it had been out when the report was first drafted. And while there was “unprecedented financial requirements of its new games - Cyberpunk 2077, GWENT and Blood and Wine,” between the strong sales of the Witcher and their revenues from GOG.com (which is still a thing and still quite cool) the company was able to post a grand total of 204 million PLN in positive cash flow.

That translates to about 51 million dollars. From a company that’s made fewer games than you have fingers on one hand.

Adam Kicinski, president of the company, had this to say about their massive success:

"For years we have consistently prioritized quality and focused on a limited range of products. The persistently strong sales of the entire The Witcher series vindicate our approach and contribute to long-term appeal of our releases. Between the launch of The Witcher in 2007 and the end of 2016 we have sold over 25 million copies of The Witcher games. This year we will continue to expand The Witcher brand - it is, after all, the year of GWENT. We're in the process of organizing the game's first major tournament, with a 100 thousand USD prize pool. Another crucial round of beta tests will commence in spring, with the retail release to follow in the second half of 2017."

So yeah, no worries, Witcher fans: your developer has been rewarded justly for their high-quality, generous ways. Sometimes the good guys do win!
