The Walking Dead VR Experience Will Be Separate from Overkill's The Walking Dead

That'd be an experience I'd have a heart attack over.

I am fascinated by zombies. I think at this point in time, the concept is a bit drawn out, but I am still interested in the post-apocalyptic zombie-filled world. However, zombies have been the subject of many of my dreams since the horrifying experience of watching the original Resident Evil at a very young age. Normally, these dreams would end with my body torn apart by these zombies. I am just never lucky with zombies.

That being said, I shudder and dread the thought of a zombie VR game. I haven't even thought about it until the mention of Overkill's The Walking Dead VR experience. I couldn't play it. I could watch someone else's reactions, but myself? Nu uh.

Now, The Walking Dead VR experience is completely separate from Overkill's The Walking Dead game for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam. The demo is specifically made for E3 and is its own game, not representative of Overkill's The Walking Dead.

Overkill's version and Starbreeze's version will be within the same universe and same storyline, but with different experiences.

However, the demo may never grow into a full-fledged game. According to Almir Listo, Starbreeze's global brand director:

"If people dislike it at E3, we won't continue developing it."

A terrified scream interrupts his next statement, proving that the VR is definitely not a game to laugh at.

"So far, so good. People are having a really good time playing the game, so obviously it's something that we want to continue developing."

If the experience comes to fruition, players need to keep in mind that the title will be separate from Overkill's The Walking Dead. Overkill's version features a full co-op shooter similar to Payday, but the VR experience would be more on-rails like House of the Dead.

If the VR experience is born, it will run on hardware other than Starbreeze's proprietary VR headset. Currently the studio has made close ties with Valve and thus support their platform 100 percent. Whatever Starbreeze makes, however, will need to be guaranteed that it works flawlessly with anything they put out. Hopefully, the VR experience will grow to be more than a demo, but one thing is for certain: Unless I'm paid a lot of money to play through the whole thing, I'm steering clear of it. I'll just watch someone else scream bloody murder.
