The Walking Dead: The Final Season Will Be an Epic Games Store Exclusive

The Walking Dead: The Final Season has been through a lot lately. It was cancelled, their developers went under, and it was picked back up by Skybound. Now, the third episode of the season will be an Epic Games Store exclusive.

Skybound Games recently announced the publishing decision in a blog post. In the post, they state that The Final Season: Chapter 3 will release on January 15 on the Epic Games Store on the PC end.

CEO Ian Howe and Skybound president of interactive Dan Murray made the following joint statement.

"The team at Epic owns a major chapter in the history of the game industry. We're excited to work together on their latest transformative event with the launch of the Epic Games Store. Epic stepped up to the plate immediately to work with us in order to bring the original team back together and ensure fans will receive the completed season of 'Telltale's The Walking Dead: The Final Season.'"

Anyone who purchased the full season already on other platforms (Steam) "will still receive the final two episodes through their previous point of purchase." It's not clear if this is a typo, and they meant to say the last three ( chapter 3, 4, and 5), or if non-Epic Store players will simply miss out on Chapter 3 itself. It was made clear that all future purchases of the complete season will only be available on the Epic Games Store.

This is the most recent in a growing list of upcoming games changing their plans to become Epic Store exclusives. This appears to be the platforms main method of building a consumer base, with Super Meat Boy and Man Eater being two notable examples. But will Epic actually overtake Steam?
