One game that hasn't been in the spotlight before E3 is The Technomancer by Spiders Studio. The trailer that debuted during the expo has garnered some hushed whispers. However, since it hasn't been the focus of past speculation, not much was known about the game. We knew the setting was a terraformed Mars. We knew there was a water shortage causing conflict. And we knew there was plenty of techno to be mancied. Other than that, its secrets blew away with the desert wind.
That was, until Jehanne Rousseau of Spiders Studio sat down with Twitch. Rousseau was able to shine a light on the mystery that is The Technomancer. The catastrophe on Mars is worse than it appears. Specifically, all the citizens there are stranded there with no contact or way off. It is almost like they've been quarantined. Players take control of a Technomancer under one of the corporations causing the water conflict. The character is fully customizable in appearance and skills. These skills can typically be used to enhance either your combat styles or technomancy skills. On top of that, weapons and gear can be upgraded through the crafting still (which can also be leveled up).
Can I level up to an arm that doesn't do this every ten seconds?
Rousseau explained that The Technomancer is action packed. Combat is split into three styles: two-handed staff, gun and knife, and shield and mace. As expected, the two-handed staff has reach and power but lacks speed and range. The gun and knife is for quicker attacks and versatility. That leaves the shield and mace for use in parrying and making counter attacks. Of course, Technomancy can be used with any style and each one has its uses against different types of enemies. Speaking of enemies, humanity and the animals they stupidly brought have mutated on the surface of Mars. That brings plenty of hearty creatures to fight, but you don't have to fight alone.
I'd kinda like a pet, though
Companions and factions exist in the game. Being a game with moral choices, player choices can often influence how factions and companions feel about the player. This helps bring forward a Mass Effect style character relationship system. Companions can become enemies, friends, or even more than friends. You'll need friends wherever you can find them. Supposedly, many people in the game are unsure what to make of Technomancers. They have frightening powers, and as Rousseau revealed, the cyber implants are far from stable. It is unsure how that quality will fit into the game, but we'll all find out when it releases on June 28 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
