Is The Taken King's creative director Luke Smith's statement to be believed? After all, the original game promised a ton of features and an in-depth story, but with how that turned out... Then again, it seems that Bungie has finally learned its lesson when it comes to delivery.
Nevertheless, Smith assures the size of the raid with this quote during a new interview with Game Informer:
"It is a journey that we hope players and their friends are going to remember. We're really excited about it, and we think it will raise the stakes again for what the raid team is asked to deliver next time. It's big."
Bungie has learned much from previous raids such as Crota's End, but they will continue to evolve and improve gameplay and rewards systems to create a fair experience for everyone rather than continuously believe we're in love with the "greatest RNG system ever."
What is a more interesting take is that the raid will be integrated with the story:
"The name King's Fall is really like a shot across the bow in a game call The Taken King. That story of Oryx and his presence in our solar system is going to continue after the credits roll and we're going to continue to tell you more more about Oryx and his minions after you face them for the first time in the game. The raid is really the culmination of that story."
The King's Fall raid is to be quite different from Year 1 raids, partially due to the difficulty. This time around, the developers created Hard Mode first, then scaled it to Normal. However, there won't just be Normal and Hard mode available, but the details will remain a secret.
Nightmare mode? Speedrun mode? Impossible mode?
Either way, prepare for The Taken King, set for launch September 15 across all platforms save for PC. By prepare, you should probably have 10-20GB of spare HDD space, though 10GB will be essential to continue playing Destiny, even without the expansion. So for players with a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 with small HDD space, you may want to consider upgrading either your HDD or your entire console. You can currently pre-order "The Taken King" for $40 from digital stores and retailers.
