The hype leading up to the launch of the Nintendo Switch was nothing more than astonishing. As original and creative of an idea that the Switch is, it's no surprise that its popularity would beat many other consoles since it's portability most likely brought in a completely unique target audience. Just days after launch, the Switch is Nintendo's fastest selling console ever in Europe. It sold more in its launch weekend in Europe than any other Nintendo console in history.
Of course with the Switch's success, the highly anticipated Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is also incredibly successful just days after launch. Breath of the Wild is Nintendo's biggest selling title ever in Europe, outselling even Wii Sports which was bundled with the original Wii itself. While the Switch did sell more copies than the original Wii in its launch weekend, we have to take into account that there was a limited supply of Wii's upon launch, therefore limiting its record-holding capabilities.
The Nintendo Switch sold over 80k copies in the UK alone over the weekend, which is double the amount of the Wii U. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was arguably the Switch's only exclusive game that actually garnered sufficient attention, and it's been critically acclaimed as one of the best games of our generation already, with some people claiming it's even the best of all time, as brash a statement as it is.
