The Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Gets Help from Deadpool Director

Don't get too excited, it's not as good as you think.

Ya'll might have heard that Sonic the Hedgehog is on the short-list of video game movies that might be made in the future. While very few solid facts have come forward since the news first broke, we do know it'll be produced by Paramount Pictures after Sony passed on the project, Jeff Fowler is set to direct (known for directing Gopher Broke), and it's supposed to be a blend of live-action and CGI, because that is always a good idea.

So far, we haven't heard much about the project to inspire confidence in it, especially since the first poster for the project teases a 2018 release, but earlier this week, Hollywood Reporter reported that the project has at least one good thing going for it: the movie just acquired Deadpool director Tim Miller as executive producer. As executive producer, he'll make sure that the movie is finished on time, that it lives up to standards of quality, and that it stays within budget... and if he's half as good at doing that as he was at directing, we'll be in a good spot. Not that it'll improve the quality of the movie much, I mean, that's still on our director, but... it's something, right? I'm desperate here.

This isn't the first time Sonic the Hedgehog's been in a movie. He had an anime movie (much like Mario) that was released exclusively in Japan in 1996 and eventually got an English direct-to-VHS release, although neither of them wound up on the silver screen proper. Sonic also had a noticeable cameo in Wreck-It Ralph as a PSA, which was pretty cool.

In the meantime, though, we'll be left to wonder if the blue blur's first Hollywood debut manages to impress. But I wouldn't bet on it if I were you.
