Fresh off the rumor mill, it sounds like another video game might be made into a movie here soon. Dust off your plumb bobs, because there are reports of a live-action movie based on The Sims.

This live-action movie rumor was reported by simscommunity.info, citing The GWW. According to them, there are plans for two separate movies, one based on The Sims and another based on SimCity. Both films are to be produced by Legendary Pictures, with SimCity already in production.

GWW claims that they have information confirming that "a SIMCITY film is currently in active development at Legendary Pictures." They describe the film as a disaster-comedy picture with a script by Mike Rosillio. They also name Mendes and John Silk as overseeing executives.

They also found casting information for another film, based on The Sims. Earlier in development, little else is known about this project aside from the short descriptions of the characters they are looking to cast. It appears to feature a female lead named Katie working at a firm of some sort.

The Sims and SimCity series is mostly simulation games, often lacking a linear storyline for use to base our estimations on. Even so, they're based on a normal modern setting, making it hard to imagine how a film would be relevant enough to the source material. Though if the success of the Sonic movie is anything to go on, movies don't need to be THAT connected to the source material to do well. As long as it retains that silly, over the top style the games are known for, we'll be happy.

Neither EA, the owner of the franchise, nor Legendary Pictures has made an official statement. We'll be keeping an ear out, though. So stay tuned.
