The Sega Mega Drive Mini, the modernized, miniature console emulating the classic of the same name, will be releasing on September 19 of this year.

According to a report by Matthew Handrahan, Sega has confirmed the release date of the console for North America and European territories. Costing $79.99 (£69.99/79.99), the Mega Drive Mini will come with a total of 40 games. Currently, only 10 games could be confirmed. They are as follows.
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Space Harrier 2
  • Shining Force
  • Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
  • Earthworm Jim
  • Comix Zone
  • Altered Beast
  • Gunstar Heroes.
The remaining 30 games will be revealed in the future.

Each console comes with two wired USB controllers, a power cable, an HDMI cable, and the console itself. Sega has opened up pre-orders for the Sega Mega Drive Mini now, through Amazon.

Interestingly, the official webpage for the Mega Drive Mini lists Toejam & Earl as an included game, and not Earthworm Jim. Sega has gone on record to clarify that the site is incorrect.

The NES classic did fantastically, selling itself as a miniature version of the original Nintendo Entertainment System. The PlayStation classic, which follows the same concept as all of these, hasn't been doing nearly as well. Let's see if Sega can somehow bridge that gap.
