The Secret World Legends is Out with New Trailer

We reported a while ago that Funcom would be launching a new free-to-play version of their commercially unsuccessful yet critically well-received MMO, The Secret World, called "The Secret World Legends". Well, now it's launched. Huzzah!

Secret World Legends is a story-driven, shared-world action RPG that plunges players into a shadowy war against the supernatural, where ancient myths and legends cross over into the modern day. Armed with both weapons and superhuman abilities, you will build your powers, solve deep mysteries, and destroy terrifying evils to uncover a dark and captivating storyline that traverses the globe. Can you reveal the truth?

You'll notice the key phrase there is "shared-world action RPG": they're not calling it an MMO anymore. So what the exact difference is from a practical standpoint between these those two terms is still something of an enigma. We do know that Secret World Legends focuses more on the story than on combat: it could be that PvP has been stripped away to really put the spotlight on the game's strongest aspect.

Executive Producer Scott Junior has this to say:

So that's no help. Either way, you can download and play Secret World Legends from the official website now, or you can wait until the 31st of June when it'll be released on Steam... or you can not play it at all - it's completely up to you.
