In case you didn't know, The Secret World is an MMORPG set in a modern-day world where occult forces are threatening mankind. The Secret World launched back in 2012, and now it's getting a transformation. Developer Funcom recently announced that they are re-releasing The Secret World as a new free-to-play MMORPG called Secret World Legends this spring. This transformation is kind of similar to how Runescape transitioned into Runescape 3.

On top of the pay structure changing, Funcom is making a lot of changes to the core of the game including combat mechanics and progression systems. Funcom has also promised that the new and improved Secret World Legends will have significantly updated graphics, an improved questing system and an easier learning curve for new players. Since Secret World Legends is a free-to-play game, that means a significant amount of microtransactions, though Funcom has not shared any details on the subject yet. There is a Patreon rewards program that players can pay for in 30-day intervals that provides extra features, conveniences, and in-game bonuses.

Since Secret World Legends is a brand new game, everybody has to start over fresh which means characters will not be transferable from the previous title. Funcom says players can either make a new character or continue to play the original Secret World which will continue to be maintained, at least for now.
