Filming for the Resident Evil movie reboot is complete, giving us a look at the stars of the film, as well as when to expect it to hit theaters.

This news comes to us from DuscussingFilm on Twitter. They announced that filming has wrapped, listing some of the lead roles, and revealing a planned release date of September 9, 2021. The film stars Kaya Scodelario, Robbie Amell, Avan Jogia, Hannah John-Kamen, Tom Hopper, Neal McDonough, and Donal Logue.

Its been a while since we heard anything about this film. Development for it began back in 2017, shortly after The Final Chapter was released. Originally, it was being produced by James Wan with a script by Greg Russo. In December 2018, Wan left the project to instead work on Mortal Kombat and Johannes Roberts was brought in as a writer and director. It began filming in October 2020 in Ontario, Canada. And now, its finished filming.

While we admittedly don't know how long most movies take to film, two months seems pretty short. Though we suppose having the small cast of Resident Evil helps. We still have a long wait for editing, though.

The Resident Evil reboot is reported to tell the story of the first two Resident Evil games. What kind of creative liberties were taken are unknown at this time, we know how different the movies became from the games the last time. Roberts previously told ScreenRant that he wants to make the film super, super scary. Cast reports confirm the presence of both Jill, Leon, and both of the Redfields.

We have nearly a year to wait before well get to see the film for ourselves. Even so, were kind of excited to see what comes of it.
