Tatsumi Kimishima, current president of Japanese video game company Nintendo, will be stepping down from his position later this year. The announcement was made alongside the company's most recent financial earnings report.
Kimishima will formally retire from his office on June 28. His role as representative director and president will be taken over by Shuntaro Furukawa, Nintendo's global marketing department head, Pokémon Company's outside director, and Nintendo's managing executive officer.
While short, Kimishima's time as president was during a critical time in Nintendo's life. Throughout the last three years, we have seen some of the best Nintendo games to have released, as well as the launch of the Nintendo Switch.
The recent console has sold nearly 18 million copies in the last year. Super Mario Odyssey, their most recent Mario title, has sold around 10 million copies in the six months it has been available.
We wish Tatsumi Kimishima a happy retirement, and Shuntaro Furukawa the best of luck with his new responsibilities.
