The hottest console of the year has been hacked after releasing only a few months ago. This will allow the possibility of unofficial Nintendo content, as well as pirated games.
Utilizing a quirk with the Switch's chip, the new Nvidia Tegra, allowed a group of hackers to access restricted functionality of the chip reserved for nVidia engineers. A video detailing the process has since been removed.
This method only works on the Switch Firmware version 3.0. Which means you would have to keep your Switch offline to avoid updates. You will also need a physical copy of Pokken Tournament DX since it contains Firmware version 3.0 inside it. This is all you need should the hackers decide to release a homebrew launcher.
Though be warned. Hacking your console comes with a number of risks. As you might imagine, doing so will void your warranty. This means Nintendo will no longer provide support should the console no longer function.
Secondly, when installing software from unlicensed organizations, there's no reassurance that the software will be good, or even safe. Not to mention that you could not play any games that require Firmware version more recent than 3.0.
Nintendo has always felt extremely protective of their intellectual property, going to great lengths to protect it from any and all forms of piracy. The Nintendo legal team has even caused frequent problems for copyrighted content on youtube.
