Call of Duty has a rough fight ahead of them this year. Last year's entry of the series saw strong sales, but was left in the dust by Grand Theft Auto V. This year they have to face off against both Titanfall and Destiny-- with the strong possibility of a Halo 2: Anniversary Edition. This is also an untested team behind the wheel, Sledgehammer Games, who up until this point have only assisted with Multiplayer development of the previous titles.

This is also the best chance for Call of Duty to evolve into something new-- a new team, a new storyline, and using new tech. Activision is also betting on the star power of Kevin Spacey (because you know teens love K-PAX) to likely attempt to flesh out a campaign mode worth playing through. There are also rumors this entry might be 8th gen only... meaning no Xbox 360 or PS3 versions. The rumor stems from this render that was shown behind closed doors at GDC.

There are also rampant rumors that the game would take place in some kind of alternate World War I setting, but the source does not seem credible at all. There are 3 hidden links on the new teaser site put up by Activision, and they all link to Private Military Companies... so it is safe to assume that is the path the series is going in. It is also safe to assume a trailer will likely be played on ESPN in June, when Call of Duty will be an official event at the X Games. We don't have to wait long to find out, the reveal will be on Sunday morning.

UPDATE
After a leak earlier this morning, Activision has put up the official reveal trailer early. The game will be called Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and is due out on November 4th... still no word on if it is coming to 7th gen systems or not.
