Part of Overwatch’s appeal, other than the vibrant gameplay, the beautiful settings, the optimistic future it portrays, a cast of colorful characters that fans adore, the Blizzard seal of approval, and the endless cosmetic options that you’d expect in a team-based shooter, is the bounty of free content Blizzard has provided to users, along with the promise that there will be even more new characters, maps, and more in the foreseeable future. Folks really dig that, it’s one of the few upsides of the whole “games as a service” thing that most companies keep pushing.

Well, Blizzard is keeping true to its word, and a new map has just been revealed to the public and released on the PTR: the Horizon Lunar Colony.

Horizon Lunar Colony is an Assault map set in a scientific base on the moon. Built as a first step towards humanity's renewed exploration of space, the colony’s goal was to examine the effects of prolonged extraterrestrial habitation—on human and ape alike. The scientists’ research proved incredibly promising...until, suddenly, all contact and communications with the base were lost.

Now, many years later, attacking and defending teams must return to the moon and battle for control of the colony’s facilities, all while they discover clues as to the fate of its previous inhabitants.

Not only does the video introduce the map, it also gives us an abridged version of Winston’s backstory as he narrates the events that caused him to retreat to earth. S’ pretty cool, and certainly a fun way to introduce a new bit of content, especially for lore-hungry fans who are just dying to know who else is gay now that Tracer’s been ousted.

Anyway. There might be more new content coming soon, but until we know for sure what else, a new map ain’t bad, is it?
