Developer Exzap posted a video on Reddit (via PCGamer) showing the game running at around 10-15 fps with an i7-4790K PC, GTX 780 and 8GB of RAM. Now obviously this is a move in the right direction, but even still, 15 frames per second is downright excruciating to play at, especially with such a new, beautiful game. Progress is being made, but I don't think we can expect to comfortably play Breath of the Wild on PC anytime soon. Exzap explains that the game is riddled with bugs, and it's impossible to even leave the tutorial area without saving. Although it sounds bad, Exzap says that it ran in this state right out of the box, and he was surprised it wasn't worse without actual work being put into it previously. He's very confident in his ability to make it playable with enough effort.
"I don't yet know precise details about why the game is running slow. That said, CPU bound games usually profit from improvements to the recompiler/JIT core. Additionally, Cemu is rather young so there is also optimization potential almost everywhere in the code. My guess is that we will see small incrementals in speed for almost every future Cemu release."
While this news is exciting, Nintendo has expressed their displeasure with emulators since pirated versions of the game are used. Hopefully, this project stays up and running long enough for the PC community to actually sufficiently play it. Fingers Crossed.
