Class will soon be in session for PlayStation 3 and Vita exclusive The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel. Announced by XSEED Games yesterday, the role-playing game will be hitting North American shores on December 22. Also, two editions will be available for those that are curious, one being standard and the other being the "Lionheart Edition." What does the Lionheart Edition include? Well:
  • Over 100 pages of artwork from Trails of Cold Steel and the upcoming 2016 sequel Trails of Cold Steel II.
  • A 1.5" emblem pin representing the Erebonian Empire
  • A custom collectable box that's designed to hold both Cold Steel and Cold Steel II.
Not only has the release date been announced, but the official website has also been launched.

So for anyone interested in purchasing this title, here's a bit more about it: The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel follows in the previous Trails titles in terms of narrative but improves on the series' formula. This title actually takes place on the same continent as Trails in the Sky but this time on Erebonian territory.

Players will be leaping into the shoes of special military students during a time of strife--this honestly reminds me of both Final Fantasy VIII and Type-0--and while at school, these students will be building relationships and taking part in daily school life in order to earn some sweet, awesome abilities. The combat will be tactical turn-based like the other Trails games but will also be topping on the new "ARCUS" system.

Also, be sure to expect a lot of Trails lore and a Cross-Save feature, so players can jump between the PlayStation 3 version and the Vita version.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel will be available December 22 for the PlayStation 3 and Vita in North America. In terms of price point, the Lionheart Edition will be priced at $49.99, but the standard edition will be $39.99. Feel free to check out the trailer below:
