The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II is Slated for Fall Release

The five-year anniversary of the North American arrival of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is coming soon, and to celebrate, XSEED games revealed new details and screenshots on the well-anticipated title The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II, which is due for the West this fall. 

Insert a giant squeal here, because it's one of the best JRPGs I've played in a long while. Not only that, but XSEED Games is confirming the localization of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd, which continues the Trails in the Sky saga. Unfortunately, it's due for a faraway release of 2017 for the Windows PC.

Huh? Wait, no Vita or PSP release for the 3rd? 

Nevertheless, to top off the celebration, the original Trails in the Sky is on sale at 50 percent off via the PlayStation Store and through various PC areas such as Steam and GOG, for an entire week. The sequel, Trails in the Sky SC, is also for sale at 30 percent off for also a week.

So now, are you prepared for even more satisfying news? For a niche game, the sales for The Legend of Heroes franchise have been quite good. The English releases of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, Trails in the Sky SC and Trails of Cold Steel have sold a combined total of more than 350,000 units to date. According to Ken Berry, Executive Vice President of XSEED Games:

"These last five years have been quite an adventure for us. While we've had our share of struggles with the series in regards to its often lengthy and arduous localization, I can say with confidence that what we've achieved far outweighs any hardships. We are without question committed to our fans, and are absolutely humbled by their overwhelming support. And in return, we promise to do our best to ensure that these two entries in Nihon Falcom's beloved Trails series receive the same amount of dedication that previous releases have seen."

So now that we have that celebration out of the way, let's talk a bit about Trails of Cold Steel II, eh?

For the PlayStation 3 and Vita this fall, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II will be taking place one month after the end of the first chapter. The ARCUS system returns once again, but a new Overdrive mode, new modes of transportation, new allies, dangers, and more will make their debut. Cross-Save functionality between the PSVita and PS3 will be back and clear data from the first game will prove to be quite valuable during the playthrough of the second chapter.

We highly recommend both Trails of Cold Steel and Trails in the Sky Second Chapter.

Personally, I'd even recommend the first Trails in the Sky title.
