Seemingly out of nowhere, Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced the new release dates for the highly anticipated titles The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima.
With the COVID-19 pandemic still creating a difficult time for people, many studios and workplaces were forced to implement a work from home system in order to continue production. As a result, various upcoming games were delayed.
Now Sony has returned to announce the new release dates.
The Last of Us Part 2 will release on June 19, 2020.
Ghost of Tsushima will release on July 17, 2020.
The Last of Us Part 2 follows the story of the original game from the previous generation. Produced by Naughty Dog, a major content leak was discovered online just earlier today (at time of writing). While Sony nor Naughty Dog have commented on this, the announcement timing seems suspicious.
Ghost of Tsushima, on the other hand, is being produced by Sucker Punch Productions, the studio known for the InFamous series. It's had a quiet time on the news front, releasing the occasional cinematic and gameplay trailer over the long term.
It's good to hear that the games will be releasing earlier than anticipated. We only hope that there wasn't an unhealthy development crunch placed on the staff to make it happen.
