The Last of Us 2: Collector's Edition Comes with a Thank-You Card

Makes more sense than a "Get Well Soon" card, I guess.

During Sony’s last State of Play broadcast, we got a lot of spiffy new details about the upcoming masterpiece from Naughty Dog, The Last of Us 2. For one, we know the release date is going to be February 2020, we know it’s going to be so long that it will require two disks (which is the first time I can remember that happening in… forever), and we know that there’s going to be a collector’s edition, which isn’t so much ‘news’ as ‘an inevitability’.

The Collector’s Edition, which will cost you $170, will come with a dynamic theme, 6 PSN avatars, a digital soundtrack, a digital and physical art book published by Dark Horse, a steelbook that includes the full game, a lithograph art print, a foot tall statue of Ellie with a guitar, a set of 5 stickers, a set of six pins, and a replica of Ellie’s bracelet.

A pretty standard offering as Collector’s Editions go. But there is one other unique addition: a thank you letter from co-director Neil Druckmann.

Here’s some of what it says, if you don’t plan to dish out nearly 200 bucks to find out yourself:

"What would you do if someone you loved was the victim of a cruel and violent act? How easily could one's mind tip toward violent retribution? How far would you go to bring the people responsible to justice? If you were successful, how would it change you? Would you ever be the same? With The Last of Us Part 2, we set out to create an experience that explores these difficult questions, the darkest sides of human nature, and the vicious cycles of violence that we witness in the world around us on a daily basis. The result is a game crafted by hundreds of developers that pushed themselves to create something more than mere entertainment--a game that we're incredibly proud of and that we hope will enthrall you and challenge your own views of justice and empathy. On behalf of everyone at Naughty Dog, we want to thank you for embarking on this journey with us."

That’s some deep stuff. We’ll have to wait a few more months before we know if they actually hit that high goal, though.
