And talking with Famitsu, he explained that he’s already hard at work on a brand-new game that will be very familiar to fans of his old work:
"We're in a stage of various trials. This stage we're in, where we're actually making our ideas to test if they're interesting or not. What we're making now doesn’t feel like an indie game. We're ultimately aiming for something on the scale of Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian."
It’s not surprising he would decide to stick to the design philosophy that first put him on the map - after all, there have been a lot of pretenders, but no developer has ever been able to make a Fumito Ueda game as well as Fumito Ueda. In any case, considering the stage of development they’re in and how long it took to get The Last Guardian out to the public, it will probably be a very, very long time before we get the chance to play this particular masterpiece.
But he did say that he would be more than willing to work with other studios to speed things along. And, frankly, those studios would probably be thrilled at the opportunity.
We’ll keep our eyes peeled for any more details on this project.
