The most recent update to the game added a small number of new changes, including a new vent cleaning task, and language translations for Chinese and Irish.
This change wasnt unprompted, however. This came after a group of Irish speaking folks created a mod for the game, implementing the translation. After posting online asking developers Innersloth to implement this mod in the base game, the leader of the project, Úna-Minh Kavanagh, was approached by Robot Teddy ( a consulting firm for the devs) about working together to add in the language option.
Úna-Minh Kavanagh, The Irish MirrorI was approached by Callum from Robot Teddy, the consulting firm supporting Innersloth (who developed Among Us) after I made a statement on Twitter asking for Irish to become an official part of the game and with the enthusiastic support we got from him, our team got set up with NDAs and began work on the translation.
Irish as a language has been slowly becoming less and less common in the modern day. With English becoming the new common language of the nation, the Irish language is seeing less consideration in modern media and technology. A game as socially relevant as Among Us getting an official Irish translation is a big step towards cultural victory for the Irish community.
