On October 20th, at 1pm EST, popular gaming and entertainment website The Escapist released an open letter to the community. In this letter, they explain that a majority of the staff for The Escapist have been relieved of their duties, with the exception of the streaming staff, including one member under the handle 'Yahtzee.'

They've made it clear that the site is dying, but they're unsure of how quickly it is falling. While you'd normally expect feedback to be full of sorrow, the community has had a rather "serves you right" reaction. Many community members responded to the letter with criticism for the moderator habits and frivolous banning, recounting the "gamers are dead" trend that came out of the Gamergate controversy years ago.

In an effort to make their forums a place more enjoyable to their community, they are turning to them for help. The Escapist is looking to their fans for suggestions on how to better manage their forums and fans as well as providing volunteer content. One such change is a revised appeal system; If you have been banned from The Escapist you can email EscapistAppeals@gmail.com and someone will manually handle your ban and potential appeal.

The volunteer content submission process and rules have also changed. Writers who submit pitches to The Escapist are given guidelines to follow before submitting the pitch. You can find the guidelines on their contact page.

If you are a regular visitor of The Escapist, be prepared for a shift in content, as more responsibility is shifted on primarily one person, and for the forums to likely change drastically.
