The game that many consider one of the best (and most brutal) RPGs of all time has arisen once more, for the Return To Lordran event has begun last night. Dark Souls doesn't have formal events as a part of the game's mechanics, let alone for a game that's six years old and has already had two successors. So what is Return To Lordran day?

This is an annual event organized by the Dark Souls Reddit community not entirely unlike that of a global reset day. At a very precise time, October 4 (the anniversary of Dark Souls' release date) at 5pm, all people participating in the event will create a new character and do a playthrough of the game. This year, the event will be running until October 24.

They highly encourage that you enable and utilize online play so that you can interact with all of the others participating. The event was created last year, the 5-year anniversary of the game's release, to pay tribute to an unforgettable classic. They wanted to simulate what the initial release day was like, having a flood of fans flock the servers playing through with a brand new character. While this is primarily geared towards hardened fans of dark souls, the organizers are hoping the event will draw in new fans as well.

The kicked off the event with a live stream on Twitch, though it is unclear if additional streams will occur throughout the 20-day span. A promotional video was also created to help spread the word, which can be found at the bottom of the article.

It's not too late to dust off your old copy of Dark Souls and join in or to buy the game and experience the magic for yourself.
