If you hadn't heard about the Culling 2 lately, then you're probably on par with most people right now. This lack of awareness for the title is partly why it's being removed from the market only a week after launching.

The Culling 2 was Xaviant Games' attempted sequel to their 2016 battle royale game. The game had remained under the radar until it launched on July 10, where it was only given a public trailer the day prior. The lack of marketing and the unexpected release led to The Culling 2 having a disastrous launch. In only two days, the player count had fallen so low that many players ("many" being VERY relative) were unable to find any matches.

A few days later, the studio tweeted about the situation.

"It's time for us here at Xaviant to come together for some much needed soul searching and to have some admittedly difficult discussions about the future of our studio. We'll talk soon."

By Wednesday, Xaviant Games released a video on YouTube addressing the recent events. Studio director of operations Josh Van Veid acknowledged that the game's launch was nothing short of lackluster, and it may not have been what their audience truly wanted. Van Veid also stated that they are contacting Sony, Microsoft, and Valve to have The Culling 2 removed from their respective digital markets.

Van Veid stated that the studio will be turning their focus back to the original game. They'll be working on making that a more refined experience. Instead of using the currently-public October 2017 build, they'll be working with the original March 2016 build and moving forward from there.

It's good that they're handling the crash-and-burn as well as they are. Returning to the first Culling game is likely their best decision at this point in time.
