Do you long for a coop zombie shooter like Left 4 Dead, but grow tired of the urban Apocalypse setting? Good news for you! Introducing The Anacrusis, a sci-fi take on a familiar game style.

Announced during the Summer Game Fest on Thursday, The Anacrusis is a sci-fi cooperative shooter. Up to four players are aboard a massive starship, left floating on the edge of space. The entire facility has been over run by an army of alien creatures. The four survivors must battle through the aliens and get to safety.

The mechanics within The Anacrusis is very similar to the popular Left 4 Dead games, with hordes of enemies, powerful special enemies, and even an AI-powered game manager to keep each play through dynamic. Even the humor is similar, with a grim setting sprinkled with comedic quips to lighten the mood. The biggest difference is the high-tech, sci-fi setting.

According to the now available Steam page for the game, the characters we see in the trailer are only the first of multiple stories, formatted into seasons.

The first season of The Anacrusis tells the story of four unlikely survivors--Nessa, Guion, Liu, and Lance--who are unwilling combatants in the battle to defend humanity from the alien menace. Play more and unlock more of the unfolding mystery of the alien attack.

The Anacrusis will be available on Steam, EGS, Xbox, PlayStation, and Game Pass. An official release date is not yet available, nor a price.
