Back in my day, we had this thing call cheat codes...

And they clearly don't exist anymore. Today, microtransactions are the new cheat codes, covering all the extras inside a game, and they can be pretty sneaky. Two months post-launch of the Xbox One-exclusive Forza Motorsport 6, Turn 10 slipped in some microtransactions in the form of tokens. Players can purchase tokens from the game's marketplace, which can be exchanged for cars or mods.

Though they have been sneaky, Turn 10 Studios actually mentioned this in their weekly blog, "Forza Motorsport Week in Review 11-13-15." And to quote:

"On Saturday, we'll be activating tokens in Forza Motorpsort 6, allowing players to purchase tokens which can be used for in-game items like cars and Mod packs. Players who do not wish to see the token feature in Forza Motorsport 6 menus will have the option to disable this feature from appearing by turning Tokens off in the HUD Options menu."

Well, the good news is is that at least it's not shoved into player faces. The bad news is, they're microtransactions. Forza Motorsport 5 fell to the rage of fans when it introduced the Tokens system, but fortunately, the rage should be quelled this time around, as the system can be completely ignored in Forza 6, as the game offers quite easy methods to obtain a wealthy flow of credits to purchase cars and more with. Well, okay, so there could be issues with fans, as Turn 10's content director Bill Wendl stated before Forza 6's launch that microtransactions wouldn't be a feature, that microtransactions would only be included if players actually asked for them.

And quoting Wendl from Video Gamer:

"'Between rewards for the Forza faithful, the new prize spinner, and increased payouts in the career, there's a lot of ways to earn [credits],' Wendl told Shacknews in the weeks prior to the game's launch. 'We just basically wanted to remove that sort of friction. The only way microtransactions would come back is if sometime in the life cycle, players are asking for it, just as an option or something like that. We're hoping the in-game economy will support how people will play the game.'"

Hrm...

So in essence, Tokens just an extra, very discreet way for Turn 10 to make some moolah and to allow players to receive cars ahead of time.

Tokens will be offered in the following:
  • 100 Tokens - $0.99
  • 325 Tokens - $2.99
  • 575 Tokens - $4.99
  • 1250 Tokens - $9.99
  • 2700 Tokens - $19.99
  • 8000 Tokens - $49.99
  • 20000 Tokens - $99.99
