Miss the old days of text adventure games like King's Quest? For those that do, you may want to take a gander at the newest release by Heiress Software, Leadlight Gamma - a loyal port of Wade Clarke's Leadlight, the 2010 violent 8-bit school girl horror text adventure.

Phew, to say that last fragment five times fast...

Well, the newest version of Wade Clarke's Leadlight has been enhanced with graphic automap, tutorial mode, unlockable extra content, behind-the-scenes tour mode, easter eggs, original soundtrack, artwork gallery, and an accessibility mode for vision-impaired players.

So, you're curious about what the game actually contains. Well, this list should help satiate that curiosity:
  • An old-school text adventure/interactive fiction - type in your commands and read what happens next (like a choose-your-own-adventure book, except instead of flipping back to the page where you made a horrible decision, you reload your save to deny that anything terrible happened to you)
  • Explore a girl's high school transformed by nightmares
  • Bloody RPG combat with possessed and supernatural enemies
  • Hide to evade major threats
  • Solve puzzles and mysteries to progress
  • Extensive secrets, weapons, and kills-based scoring system
  • Avoid gruesome deathtraps, or back up a move if you fall prey to them
  • Get help with puzzles from the decodable hint sheet
And the plot? Well...

"In Leadlight Gamma you take on the role of 15-year-old Belinda Nettle, a student at Linville Girls High School in Australia's Blue Mountains. After falling asleep in the library one afternoon, you wake from your mundane existence into a nightmare. Your classmates are transformed, nameless terrors seek you out across the schoolgrounds, and traps and tricks threaten your life at every turn.

Can you help Belinda survive this terror-filled night and solve its mysteries? And will there be a new day?"

The game is rated 15+ (or Mature in the US) due to cruel and disturbing content, violence and gore. You can purchase Leadlight Gamma, available for Mac OS, Windows, iOS, and Linux, for only $4, but you're always welcome to donate a little extra when purchasing.
