Well, folks, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but we've officially stepped onto the slippery slope, as Threshold Global Studios, a Chinese-based film studio, has just announced an 80 million dollar trilogy is currently being produced... for Tetris. That's right, ladies and gentleman--we're getting a Tetris movie trilogy.
Filmed mostly in China and starring a Chinese cast, this probably won't be one of those big western blockbusters like Warcraft is going to be, but this is still a really big deal and nothing to turn your nose at. Not only do they intend for it to be an international hit around the globe (hence the name of their studio), as producer Larry Kasanoff explains:
"It's not at all what you think; it will be a cool surprise.”
He describes it as a Sci-Fi thriller, and that he won't be contriving a plot to fit content, but, beyond that, we know very little about this movie, least of all when we can expect its release. All we know is that filming is going to begin in 2017, so, it really is happening, save some disaster.
I, uh... I believe that anything could be turned into a good movie, but for the life of me, I can't imagine how Tetris could pull it off and still be recognizable as Tetris. But it's something to think about, while we wait for the two, three years it'll take to see the movie released...
