Nintendo held a direct yesterday, and like all their directs recently it’s been jam-packed with goodies. And, like all their directs recently, it’s also been jam-packed with news about everyone’s favorite crossover Brawler, Super Smash Brothers Ultimate: where not one, but two new “characters” were announced.
The first character that was revealed (and the only ‘real’ character of the pair) comes as a bit of a surprise: It’s Terry. From Fatal Fury.
After so many strong and hype characters (Joker, Hero, Banjo-Kazooie), Nintendo was really on a roll. I guess it was only a matter of time before they launched a dud (or another Fire Emblem character), and while I wouldn’t go so far as to call Terry from Fatal Fury the biggest dud possible, it does strike me as a weird choice, given how big SNK’s library is and how many more… relevant characters they could have picked for the roster.
That said, Fatal Fury was an important game, respected in history, with a large enough fan-base that I’m sure some people are over the moon at the inclusion: and it’s really about them, not me.
However, what’s got me (moderately) hyped is the second new “character” to come to the game: the long awaited, long dreaded, Sans. From Undertale.
He’s a Mii outfit.
Now, Mii outfits aren’t that exciting for me, generally speaking, so normally I don’t care when they come out. What makes this package so enticing, however, is that it includes a brand-new remix of Megalovania, San’s iconic fight music, which Toby Fox himself composed for Super Smash Brothers. That’s probably worth the couple bucks you’d need for the costume pack alone, if I’m being honest, and if I was also being honest, the only real reason I was ever interested in Undertale in Smash was to get some of those sweet tunes in the mix.
So that’s good.
