They happen and often for good reason. Perhaps there are a few too many bugs. A game-breaking error may have occurred at the very last second. A director may have quit the development team.
There are plenty of reasons for a delay, but most often a delay is required for polishing.
In this case, it would be Sonic Team Racing.
It was originally accelerating towards shelves later this year, but it appears that development needs a little more maintenance.
According to Sonic's Twitter page:
"Hey guys! To make Team Sonic Racing the best game it can be, were giving the team extra time to work on it. Our new release date is May 21, 2019. We know delays are no fun, but quality matters most. Thanks for your patience weve got more to show you for TSR very soon!"
While it is a little bit of a bummer that it will be another half a year before it's released, I'd rather the developers take the time to push out a polished game than a title marred by bugs and other atrocities.
Unless they're fun bugs.
Either way, look forward to Team Sonic Racing for all platforms on May 21, 2019.
