Team 17 has something planned for 2020. Something.. wormy. According to a recently released teaser trailer, a new Worms game is coming later this year.
The trailer shows us some classic Worms gameplay throughout the ages, moving forward in time. Eventually, they pan out away from a television, which was displaying that gameplay. A worm appears, bashing the TV in with a baseball bat. They knock away a grenade thrown on screen. But shortly after, a Holy Hand Grenade, a fan favorite weapon, rolls in, blasting the worm away. The video ends with a fade to "2020."
For those unaware, Worms is a series of turn-based battle games. In it, teams of combat worms take turns attacking each other with the goal of being the last team standing. To aid in combat, they can use weapons like rocket launchers, grenades, bats, guns, cannons, airstrikes, and even a giant exploding donkey made of concrete.
Now the speculation!
The video showcased some classic gameplay from their 2D games. The series began as a 2D game but occasionally delved into 3D, both in graphics and with gameplay. Since the footage ignored those examples, that leads us to believe that this upcoming title will also be 2D in gameplay and style. Having the end scene with the TV in 3D made us wonder, though.
Otherwise, there's very little to go off if in the video. If we want to know more, we'll just have to wait.
