If you’ve been living under a rock for a year, first of all, I’m so sorry, society has failed you. Second of all, you may be interested to hear that Nintendo has announced a new console, and that it’s launching tomorrow. As you can imagine, the hype is palpable, and while early reviews are mixed, there’s no knowing exactly how well a console will be received until it gets into the hands of the everyday gamer.
Well, a few everyday gamers have gotten their hands on it pretty early, and we’ve learned a fairly interesting new little tidbit: the Switch Pro Controller, which does not come packaged with the Switch but rather is released separately for 70 bucks, is actually compatible with PC’s, making it the first Nintendo controller to work on a non-Nintendo device.
There’s no big mystery to it, however: it’s simply that the controller operates by Bluetooth, and if you open up your PC’s Bluetooth settings and connect to the controller, it works as easily as any Xbox or PlayStation controller you might have – heck, it even works for most Steam games in Big Picture mode.
That said, don’t be fooled by the fact that this controller comes with a USB-C cord: you can’t plug it in directly and use it that way, you HAVE to use a Bluetooth connection. So if your PC doesn’t have any Bluetooth compatibility, you’re out of luck.
You can see the full “experiment”, posted by DreWoof on Youtube, right below.
That’s pretty cool, but definitely not a game changer. A Pro controller is actually fairly expensive, and since it’s only sold separately, you don’t even need a Switch if you really want to game on your PC with one, for whatever reason.
We’ll have to see if the Switch is worth that kind of controller money tomorrow.
