So, surveys are always fun, right? We like surveys. Especially if it tells us something interesting about ourselves in convenient number-and-chart format. Fortunately, Nicole Pike, Director of Nielsen Games, understands that, and recently compiled a brief but interesting little survey and published it over at Nielsen.
While there are a lot of things this survey doesn’t’ tell us—perhaps more dangerously how many people were actually asked—it does tell us quite a few interesting if ultimately meaningless tidbits; the first part of the survey asked how many of the participants had a previous generation console before buying a current gen one, and the answer, unsurprisingly, was most.
Based on the graph, it seems Wii U owners were the most likely to have another console before getting a Wii U, but the other two weren’t far behind. If you want to talk about brand Loyalty, however, just look at Xbox One owners; less than half of them owned a PS3 before moving onto Xbox One. That’s an interesting outlier.
But more interesting is the next chart. Check it out; the priorities people have when buying their consoles.
Now that’s interesting. By the looks of things, Playstation 4 players may as well just get PC’s, while Wii U players are more likely to get what they wanted. Xbox One owners have that famous brand loyalty, and mostly want the Xbox One cuz “it’s an Xbox”, so it seems Microsoft’s plan to build a cult around it’s console is going without a hitch.
I do find it funny, by the by, that “What family wants” is even an option. People getting bullied into buying a particular gaming console by their children, wives and husbands makes me chuckle inside. Anyway, that’s pretty much it; and while we can’t really verify how scientific it is, it’s interesting to mull over.
