At the very end of today's Nintendo Direct, the company announces Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch, coming later this year.

It begins with footage of two Splatoon inklings in the middle of combat. They jump and fly across a vast white landscape, locked in arms. Suddenly, the world grows dark. A powerful luminescence builds behind them. As the inkling girl turns around, she is frozen in awe. It's the Super Smash Bros logo, composed of flames, floating high in the air. Standing in front of the ominous emblem are a number of figures. Their silhouette distinguished by the backlight of the flames. It's Mario, then Link. We cut back once more to take in the overwhelming might of the logo. It's Super Smash Bros.

Expected in "2018," Super Smash Bros for the Switch has all the potential of the Wii U/3DS versions, without the divide. The portability of the console will be perfect for gathering with friends to fight, while options like the 3rd party adapter will allow people to still use their beloved Gamecube controllers.

All about the hype train, baby.
