The Nintendo Switch is a fantastic console, no doubt. But when it comes to controllers, the single Joycon mode might be the least comfortable option of the current generation. Too bad it'll be the only option.
According to a report by Spanish game site Nextn.es, the upcoming party game will only support the single control mode. This alienates the often more popular options, like the Nintendo Switch Pro controller. Or in a more positive perspective, you'll won't need any more than four Joycons to play.
It's not been made clear exactly why this decision was made. One could argue that it's so that no player would have an advantage over another when playing the mini-games. It's also possible that this was so that you wouldn't need any more than two Switch consoles, or two extra Joycons, to play the game on the go. Ya know, like in those rooftop parties everyone has?
Earlier this week, Nintendo announced that Europe will be offering a Joycon bundle of the game. It will include a physical copy of the game, as well as a Neon Green/Neon Pink Joycon set. Oddly enough, the bundle doesn't release until November 23, nearly two months after Super Mario Party comes out on October 5.
Controller diversity has normally been a commonplace piece of polish for the Switch and its games. It seems odd that a game with such a focus on playing with others would have this limitation.
