We all know that Nintendo has been in the background for a quite a while in recent years. Nothing has really made a huge splash, but people did start to gain a ton of interest once the Switch was rumored. Starting off as the "NX", the full Switch presentation has passed us by and now gamers are scratching their heads a bit. What is the Switch offering that justifies my preorder and Day One purchase? Also, what is Nintendo doing with their new online services?
With only 4 confirmed launch titles being 1-2-Switch, Skylanders Imaginators, Just Dance 2017, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, this is definitely a fair question to ask. Nintendo has chosen to respond to the money-saving community by showing off a little bit more of their new title, Super Mario Odyssey. For those who haven't seen the game yet, think Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Sunshine. It's an open world adventure game where Mario must go through tiring efforts to save ole' Princess Peach from the might Bowser. With a more modern swing on the title, Mario is pictured walking around New York City before going into the wacky worlds we know and love.
While this is great and the game looks like a ton of fun, the new gameplay really isn't much of a response. For starters, they barely added anything. You can now see America's favorite Italian plumber run and jump over and over again on the same intersection in N.Y.C. in this new "footage", but it doesn't really showcase content. You aren't seeing anything new and the game is still going to be released around the holidays in 2017.
I'm sorry Nintendo. Honestly, I'm really pulling for you guys and I love the games you make, but this tiny addition isn't bumping up the excitement factor or making more titles available on launch day. Despite the hate the console has received, for right now the Nintendo Switch has officially sold out. It took only three days, but major retailers are no longer accepting preorders for the console until they get word from Nintendo that it is okay to do so. Many Switch consoles will be shipped in the first month, so you don't really need to preorder anything anyway. Plus the fact that even if you do preorder the Switch and get it on the first day, the entire pool of games is going to consist of a handful of games. I'm assuming every single person getting the Switch on launch day is only doing it for Zelda. I don't blame them, I mean, I want to play it really badly too, but I can wait a few extra weeks for the pool to start moving more toward the deep end.
