About two months ago, we reported on the latest project by popular Super Mario 64 modder Kaze Emanuar, Super Mario 64: Ocarina of Time. Now the project is complete and available for anyone to enjoy.
Kaze's first major project was Super Mario 64 Online, which allowed friends to join together to tackle Peach's Castle. The project, which was affiliated with Kaze's Patreon account, would eventually be DMCA'd by Nintendo. After its conclusion, the modder would begin work on Super Mario 64: Ocarina of Time, which implements the entirety of The popular Legend of Zelda game into the Super Mario 64 engine. Last we heard, the project was still in development, with an unannounced release date. Today is that date.
In the modded game, the player, controlling Mario, has essentially taken up the role of Link. You awaken in the Kokiri Forest, looking to find the princess. As it turns out, the evil Bowser intends on taking over Hyrule, and Mario must travel through time to stop him. Monsters and other baddies have been replaced with the plumber-associated equivalent, and some of the world puzzles have been modified to accommodate the situation. The game blends traits of the two smoothly, replacing fairy fountains with warp points, for example.
Super Mario 64: Ocarina of Time is currently available, and more details can be found in the info section of the video listed above.
