At last year's E3 we got a first look at Insomniac's Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive. The trailer was awesome... but was also entirely CG. It also didn't help that Insomniac had an insanely good E3 trailer for FUSE... and that game turned out to be just another generic looking shooter that was nothing like the trailer.
Besides maybe trying a little too hard to come off as hip and cool, what we can now see of Sunset Overdrive seems to be pretty close to the trailer. The game comes off as a mix of Ratchet & Clank, Dead Rising, and Jet Set Radio. You also get the feeling, with the number of on screen enemies while maintaining a high level of detail and not dropping frames, that this game wouldn't be possible on a lesser powered system than the Xbox One (I'm looking at you Titanfall).
I think the thing that impresses me the most so far is that there really is no main character. Like a western style RPG you build your character from scratch and you have a wide choice of weapons and special abilities. Rather than fighting demons or aliens... you're up against an evil energy drink company called FizzCo that's turning people into monsters. It just feels fresh and looks very fun to play. There is also no doubt going to be some kind of online component that will likely be shown at E3.
If the game is even 1/2 as good as Ratchet & Clank... Microsoft could have a strong exclusive that's not a dude-bro shooter or green space man.
