Yo, any of you cool cats able to check out Summer Games Done Quick?
It's only the highlight of the year: a charity event where there's almost non-stop speedrunning for seven days straight, showing off some of the coolest ways games can be broken, all in an effort to raise money for charity. This year's Summer Games Done Quick just wrapped up, and in doing so, set a new record for money raised for charity: netting 1.7 million dollars for Doctors Without Boarders, crushing the old record of 1.3 million they set last time.
If you missed it, shame on you, but it's okay: they have all the videos of all their runs on youtube right now. And they are perfect binge material for a slow workday or an exhausted brain. Highlights this year include playing Nier: Automata with one hand, an eight-hour "speedrun" of the entirety of Final Fantasy 7, and beating Portal 2's co-op mode with a single player using two sets of mice and keyboards. This on top of the usual speedrunning staples, like Dark Souls, Earthbound, and Super Mario 64.
Keep your eyes peeled for the next time they host this event: let's hope even more records are broken in the future, both for games played and for money raised.
