Battlerite announced sometime earlier this year that they would be making the mistake of not adding a Battle Royale mode to their game, and they were attempting to fuse the top-down MOBA-style of gameplay with the larger maps and loot-as-you go systems of Battle Royales. There wasn’t much gameplay to be shown, but they did talk about how they planned to do it, and it was different enough that you couldn’t just straight-up call it a Fortnite rip-off. Which is more than, say, Paladins can probably say.
In any case, earlier this month, they announced that the Battle Royale mode would instead become a standalone, independent game. And not soon afterward released a trailer to show off some actual gameplay, which… basically looks exactly like you’d expect:
The problem was that the game is now going to cost money, which is sort of spitting in the face of the people who were excited for this game and were looking forward to the free mode… or the people who spent money on the game assuming those purchases could be used in the Battle Royale mode… or people who were rightfully concerned that, hey, this probably means vanilla Battlerite is dead.
Well, to make it up to some of those people, Fortnite developer Stunlock has announced some small bonuses that existing Battlerite players can get in the new game. Namely, anyone who purchased Battlerite during early access, or got the all champions/ultimate fan pack, will get to buy the game at 50 percent off the normal $20 asking price (however, this discount expires after 10 days after Battle Royale is launched), and a Legendary Ember Tiger mount. Existing players who haven’t bought those packs but still have an account level of 20 or higher will get an Epic Ricky the Rocket mount when they buy Battlerite Royale.
And as a final mercy, all your Battlerite cosmetics will transfer to Battlerite Royale.
Will it be enough? Will the game be any good? We’ll have to wait until September when it enters early access.
